What to Pack: A Weekend Away

I try to pre-plan my outfits for a weekend trip away, but I pretty much always end up throwing everything I've purchased within the past month into my duffel bag and calling it quits. Lately however, with all of the trips we've been taking, I have been attempting to pack much lighter, and it's been such a better way to travel!

Above I put together three different looks (two casual and one slightly dressier for date night) which include some of my favorite pieces on the market currently.

..............

Look 1: I love the suede details on this J-Crew striped cotton shirt and I recently purchased those booties which I am obsessed with (style note: order a half size up as these run a little small).

Look 2: Monochromatic Navy is calling my name this Fall. The Gigi NY clutch is such a great size and it goes with literally everything. It also comes in a bunch of other colors (though I obviously prefer the neutrals).

Look 3: Reeeeeally into gray currently and I love the look of mixing all different shades together. I'm just about dying for those J-Crew floral flats too!

What are you necessaries for a weekend trip away?

A look a this weeks wish list below!

Some highlights include a jacket designed by my friend Morgan Clifford, that jade green leather bag with a small gold monogram stamp (J - doesn't this bag scream "I'm 30!"?), gold rimmed shadow boxes for organizing jewelry and/or sunglasses, and oh my that (faux) leather brimmed hat which would be the perfect addition to my collection.

Also how cool are those earth rocks? only $47!

Reading Nook

....................

I love when I find the time to really dig into a great book. Especially when the temps are dropping and the daylight starts fading earlier. It's very tempting to forget all of your day's obligations and instead curl up with a fluff read and glass of wine (or tea, but wine is definitely better). I find this treat all the more enjoyable when it comes with a cozy space to post up in.

A reading nook is essential in the home. A place to have your morning (iced) coffee and read the newspaper jk I read my CNN app but same deal. Or a place to hide from everything/one else, read a few pages, and finish up with a quick kitty cat nap. Were talking some serious "Me"  time here.

Required: Throw blankets, great lighting (preferably on a dimmer so you can decide on your mood), a serious seating situation where you can put your feet up/lay down, solitude, and a obviously a place to keep your wine (did I mention the wine?). Bonus if you have a fireplace in your nook!

Above is a peep at what my dream nook would feel like!

Black is Back

Friday, September 25, 2015

Really, it never left. But at the risk of sounding like a total basic B, I am so excited for Fall/Winter and getting back into my emo uniform. An all black everything outfit is just about as chic as one can get, and it works across the outfit board no matter where you're heading.

Next on my reading list is this book, and I can only assume there has to be some massive chapter on the basic rules of black. Forever a "Do" in my book, this is will continue to be my go-to look each year when the humidity transitions to a cool and crisp breeze.

I can feel the soft cashmere and faux fur already!

Blue and Silver Lining

Thursday, September 24, 2015

I put together this post earlier in the week but it actually could not be more perfect for today! As I type, I am sitting next to the most serene/beautiful blue lake without a person or boat in site (the most quiet place I have been in ages). We decided to take a last minute trip to J's family lake house, which has been a fun and unexpected mid-week treat (and thankfully gets us away from Philly/Pope mayhem!).  Typically we are not up here during this time of year, but it's been fun to see the change of colors and activity on the water. It may not be swimming weather (it's freezing) but it is certainly one of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen. I wish I could share a picture of my view right now. There are about 10 different shades of blue, gray and silver reflecting off different parts of the lake and it.is.stunning.

Instead I'll share a favorite bathroom board that I created. You clearly will notice a trend with my design layouts - 9 times out of 10 they will be blue & white or all neutrals (these are my go-to color pallets). I really gravitate toward soft, calming tones and love the clean and minimal feeling they provide. Also while an amazing shower is necessary (J says this is the one area where he won't cut corners when we buy our house) I insist on an a giant clawfoot soaking tub ( I have always loved baths - is that weird?)

Bottom line; I would live in this bathroom.

Pretty Little Layers

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Even though statement jewelry has been a major thing for the past few years, my heart has always been with the dainty, little, delicate pieces. To me, there is something really feminine about a soft white shirt, worn-in jeans, and small, simple gold touches to compliment it. I love the look of layering on multiple items, but still having a light-weight, barely-there feel to the look. Tiny gold studs, a super skinny diamond bracelet, and layers of delicate gold chains are a few of my favorite go-to items that I wear on a daily basis. Below are a few pieces I own, along with a few wish list items.

Sometimes less really is more!

Wishfully 9.21.15

Above you'll find a little curated gathering of things I am currently wishing for - - Enjoy!

*4. I haven't owned a hair straightener in years now, and since I learned to master the self-blowout, it's been fine. However, I am starting to miss a poker straight look from time to time. I was really trying to hold off since years of straightening through high school and college left me with majorly dead locks (I cut off all of my hair this past January to start fresh), but then I read about the GHD platinum straightener which is proven to reduce hair breakage by 50% and helps your hair hold its color up to two times longer (read more about it here). I am sold.

*6. I have the Patagonia puffer jacket in bright red (buyers tip - I bought the XL from the little boys section which is way cheaper) but I'm really wanting it in the basic black color. This jacket has a super light weight feel to it, but it keeps you incredibly warm. I bought one for J in blue and his is also on full rotation come fall/winter. It only gets sliiiightly awkward when we both show up wearing them and look like twins…

*10. I love the idea of a good outdoor date. Lawn concerts in the summer, and picnics in the fall are a few of my favorites. Enter the little picnic basket - perfect for horse races, winery visits, or an afternoon boat booze cruise. Toss in some cheese, crackers, a stick of salami, some mixed nuts and a chilled bottle of Oyster Bay, and you are ready to happy hour…or date…or gossip with your girlfriends…

*12. I love a big tote bag. If you've ever peaked inside my bag (I carry this one) then you know I carry everything but the kitchen sink a girl has to be prepared! Anywhoo I came across the (appropriately named) Transport bag from Madewell and decided it will be my next bag purchase. What makes it even cuter though, is the gold stamped initials you can add when you buy it directly from the Madewell site (buy here). How cute does this look?!

What is on your wish list?

Birds the Word

Monday, September 21, 2015

Blush pink has been having a big moment this year. This works out perfectly for me since I am obsessed with all things flamingo. It all started a while back when I came across THIS piece of bathroom perfection. Can you deal with that cuteness? I cannot.

I also fell for this watercolor print and that was that… I was officially flamingo obsessed.

Below is a small curated board with some of my favorite flamingo finds from around the Internet. Top three items include: The flamingo napkin rings (so stink in cute), the flamingo clutch,  and that darling flamingo onesie (my niece, Isla, needs this!)

Do you have a particular bird crush?

On Safari

Friday, September 18, 2015

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably seen TSwift's newest video for Wildest Dreams (my favorite off of 1989). The Safari-esq backdrop mixed with the old time-y Hollywood glamour vibe is a serious jaw dropper. Feeling inspired, I wanted to create a modern twist on safari looks (no shock there since I got to live in a world of neutrals for this post - absolutely loving olive green).

Going on safari is definitely on my bucket list. I love animals and travel, but have never done anything like it. It would certainly be an 'out of my comfort zone' type of adventure, but it is one I welcome with challenge and excitement.

My heart broke when I heard the news of the killing of Cecil the lion. He was 13 years old and was such an incredible creature. His life was taken all because the man wanted a lion head mounted on his wall…how sick! If we don't take action to protect our wildlife, much sooner than later it will cease to exist. Your children's children will never know the sweet animals that once were (how crazy is that!). If you want to help protect our wildlife and put an end to trophy hunting, please consider making a donation or signing a petition to the government. You can do so by visiting the IFAW website here!

Crowning Moments

Thursday, September 17, 2015

One of the first things I said when I was engaged was "No bling whatsoever". I really didn't deem myself a sparkle girl, but I went into dress shopping promising my mom (and myself) that I would be open minded and would try on any and all styles. In the end, I had a small jeweled waist line around my dress and I loved it. It's really true, you often end up picking a dress totally different from what you originally thought you wanted!

If you want to add a little sparkle to your big day, but in a unique way, check out Jennifer Behr's insanely gorgeous hair accessories. These pieces will set you back a few hundred dollars, but they make a huge statement. I am loving the custom line that she did for J-Crew. (Side Note: You can also find similar pieces that are more budget friendly on etsy, or try making one yourself!)

How good is her Grecian leaf headband (pictured below)? I wore a similar (more affordable) version for a black tie wedding this past New Years Eve (found here) and it was certainly a stand out piece.

Kilim It

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

I've had a crush on all things Kilim for a while, and I don't see it ending any time soon. With deep reds, over dyed blues, and burnt oranges, these textiles bring a world of character from living room to wardrobe. Lay it on your hardwood floors or wear it on your feet. For a brand that truly nails it, check out Artemis Design Co. Their pieces are like a trip around the globe! I am mostly obsessed with their very on-point flats (also these unreal silk ones #need).
Tory Burch also masters the trend in a number of her looks below - hello, I need those pants in my closet right now.

Currently Coveting: An amazing kilim overnight bag like this "Oh my God" piece!

Bunk Up

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Aside from one (only mildly scaring) incident from when I was younger beware of the top bunk fall, I have always thought bunk beds were the coolest addition to a bedroom. And this one is not just for the kids when paired with soft/neutral tones, seriously cool light fixtures and a smooth breadboard finish. Bonus if you have built-ins and/or stairs.

These sets are perfect for a vacation house (so you can pack in your visitors and maximize your space). I reeeeally want to have a fun set of bunks in a guest room someday.

Blue Jean Baby

Monday, September 14, 2015

Always have been, and always will be a white tee shirt and jeans girl. If given the choice, that is what you will find me in on any given dress-down day. Great denim is classic, clean, and most importantly comfortable when you find the right fit, fabric, and cut.

I am in the market for some new skinnies for the fall (any suggestions??), and have heard great things about this brand. How crazy though that it seems like fuller-leg jeans are coming back. Of course I tossed so many cute pairs a few years back ugghhh. These are adorable and would be so cute with a simple white top and tall booties.

I was always a J Brand girl but want to try some new lines/styles - Suggestions welcome!

Crème Fraîche

Thursday, September 10, 2015

I get so bothered by people who freak out about wearing white after Labor Day. This is definitely a "rules were made to be broken" case, and even more so, a rule that should really be put to bed.

Enter "Winter White". In the coziest cashmere and creamiest tones, this hue should be donned year-round. Want to wear white in December? A classic pair of wool, wide leg cream pants matched with a textured fisherman sweater is just the ticket. Accessories are also a great area to add in some cream colored details. Think blanket scarves, knit beanie hats, and woven mittens as shown below. And finally the shoes: M. Gemi, a new Italian shoe brand I've recently discovered, has some amazing cream & white flats that add a perfect polished touch to any outfit, day to night.

How do you wear your Winter White?

Cashmere Glittery Cream

Thursday, September 3, 2015

Hi Guys,
Wanted to quickly check in as I have had multiple inquiries about the "Cashmere Glittery" cream I Snapchatted this past weekend. I have searched high and low and have not been able to find it for sale online, except for this one random italian website. Doesn't really look like you can purchase for shipment to the US though.

It's honestly the best cream ever, smells great and adds an amazing shimmer to your skin (this is NOT body glitter a la 1999). I bought mine at Valley Forge Flowers in Eagle Village and they have a massive supply, so if you are really wanting to secure a jar for yourself, head over there or give them a call!

Hope this is helpful!

BUNDLED - Fall/Winter Coat Round-Up

I freaking love Fall/Winter coats. Sadly, I have been on a multi-year hunt for the perfect camel over coat and have not been able to find "The One" yet. I ordered this Top Shop version from the Nordstrom annual Fall preview sale, but returned it ( I was literally swimming in it and didn't care for the fabric). If anyone has any great suggestions for a classic camel coat, let me know!

BB Dakota is a great brand for adding some fun to your coat wardrobe. They are super affordable, and are always on trend. I tend to also always love their silhouettes and cuts. Below are a few BB Dakota favorites of mine.

If you are looking for color, J Crew is your one-stop destination. Though J Crew has gotten stupidly expensive over the last few years (can they come back to earth now?) they are a great go-to for classic shapes and bright bold colors. They also do last a long time (I have had a few of my J Crew Fall coats for years now).

Share some of your favorite Fall coat finds!

Line Love - Joules

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Apologies for the quick break in posting. We took a last minute lake trip Sunday-Tuesday to soak up some end of Summer sun. While shopping around the cute small-town stores, I made a new fashion line discovery- Joules.
Described as a "Brilliantly British" brand, "devoted to crafting the highest quality clothing designed to capture the true essence of British style". This is not one to miss!

Given my time spent living abroad in Bath, England and my family British heritage, I am constantly drawn to tweed, field coats, and sweet floral prints (have you guys see the floral lined Barbour Liberty jackets that came out a few years ago? - So stinking cute)

I love the preppy rain coats and floral/striped mixed media prints that this line serves up. I tried a few pieces on this past weekend, and I am truly sold by the fit and quality. I walked away with a wide brim navy and white striped hat (hat addict) from the line, but I am itching to order that fleece and navy floral long sleeve with striped arm detailing.

Darling PJ's and bow tied wellies... I literally want it all!

Check out more of the line here.
