Otto-Matic

The Ottoman: Yes it serves a purpose, but in my mind they're all about eye candy. A playful punch of color, a creative pattern done in upholstery nails, a leather footstool in the shape of a dog... The options are endless and the room is your palette. The Ottoman is often a main focal point, so why not have a little fun and add some character? I personally would take any of the above home with me. I'm drooling over the Union Jack flag print...Which would you choose?

Music Monday

An oldie but a goodie. This song is upbeat and really transcends time. If someone wrote this today, I'm certain it would be just as enjoyable and very well received. I run to it, I play it in my car, and J approves of it for today's Music Monday. So there you have it. Enjoy!

Dress(age)

I am eternally obsessed with all things equestrian. I love it in my home, on my wrists, and in my closet. One of my favorite details in my apartment, is the horse shoe that hangs above each and every door way. They were taken from my grandmother's horse farm and they're old, loved and rusted. Bringing good luck to all who pass under, they add a unique but personal touch to each room and remind me of my childhood and riding camp. I am dying to get back into riding but it isn't a cheap hobby. So while I save my pennies, I will make due with some equestrian inspiration. Is this style on trend for you?

Music Monday

Tonight's Music Monday is a song I stole from my spin class- I Need Your Love by Ellie Goulding. I successfully shazamed it while peddling along which was no easy feat, but it.was.worth.it. I've been a big Ellie Goulding fan for a long time now and she seems to just get better and better. If you haven't already listened to some of her music, I've posted some of my other favorites below. Happy Presidents Day!

Few Things...

Friday, February 15, 2013

Today is a good day! Our CEO gave us the day off in addition to Monday so 4 day weekend, here I come! Here's a few fun things...

This little surprise showed up at my door yesterday. Yes, it's true...I commissioned a portrait of Bug. I was so nervous unwrapping it but it is AMAZING.

TA DAHH! Could you die? Not only is it so stinkin cute, but it actually IS Bug. I sent it to my bestie Colleen for a sneak peak, and at first glance she thought I was sending her a real picture of Bug. I am obsessed. It's already framed and is going up on my gallery wall this weekend eeeep!

How was Valentine's Day for you all? I know I am the exception to the rule, but I love this holiday, single or taken. I just think it's pretty (red's my favorite color) and people are happy and I find always extra nice. One of my favorite Valentine's days ever was my Freshman year in college when my roommate/bestie Caroline and I went to the local bar/restaurant and had a little girl date. It was simple but also memorable since we always make each other laugh harder than I ever knew I could. This year was no different. J met me at work and we had lunch together and took Bug to the dog park. He gave me a massage at the Georgetown Ritz as a gift and some beautiful red tulips. I knocked his socks off with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue (a part valentine's/part congrats on the new job gift) and then we topped off the night with a yummy dinner at our favorite tapas restaurant in Georgetown. It's nice to remind the one you love just how special they are. Plus I LOVE giving gifts and organizing surprises.

This made his year, I'm pretty sure.

I also had the bottle engraved with a little poem I wrote - I might have a future in poetry no?

I know I've posted about it before, buy my addiction has not subsided even the slightest....Dry Bar. So I didn't have an appointment for last night but after a long, long work week, I really didn't have the energy to do my hair in any sort of presentable fashion. These days I am a shower and air dry girl for the most part. So, I popped into Dry Bar on my way home and shamelessly begged asked if there was any chance of being squeezed in. I was added to a cancellation list, aka fat chance, but to my surprise I was called back in just in time for a quicky before our dinner reservation. If you haven't tried Dry Bar yet, get your booty in there. I'm not one to post pictures of myself on the blog so I won't show you an after but I assure you the work was great. Plus, they had pink champagne just for V-day which was the cutest detail. I told my stylist that I would live in Dry Bar if I could. I meant it.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Needles In My Face...

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Have any of you every tried acupuncture? I've done it once and I loved it. Maybe it was because I got to take a peaceful nap in a dimly lit room, but I really thought I felt relief from the needles too! I ask because I am going in for another session on Saturday and want to hear your personal accounts/experiences, so I can decide if it should be a regular thing or if I am just being a total kook. A few years ago I started getting migraines, and if you've ever felt a migraine, you know how TIERABLE (coined from the bachelor) they are. They make me lose my sparkle...OK I'm done.

My mom and sister both went though bouts of migraines, but according to my mom they both grew out of them. I'm still waiting....
So to bring this post full circle, I am considering trying acupuncture as a way to relieve them. I'm optimistic with a touch of skepticism. I suppose the treatment makes sense, tapping into the surface of the skin to release pressure/toxins? I don't know, seems a touch hippy/holistic to me but I am willing to try anything for the chance to use my sick/vacation days for some actual fun rather then sobbing in my bed in the dark... yes, they are THAT bad. Leave me a comment or email me at minksundaylove@gmail.com if you have tried/committed to acupuncture. Success and failure stories are both appreciated!

Southwestern Style

This is one of my ALL TIME favorite trends - Southwestern Style. A little bit country, a little bit desert and some major western flare, this trend dominates in pattern and color. I personally would eat this style for breakfast, but if you want to just dip your toes in, there are many ways to add subtle southwest pieces to any home or outfit. Those kilim pillows and ottoman would look insane in a ranch style house (re: Reese Witherspoon's house in Ojai) But I have also found ways to incorporate these bold pattens into my not so western DC life. That clutch? Put me in all black everything and strap that puppy to my hand and you have one happy girl. Those boots? You can find various styles all over the internet, but it's easy to lust over that Cobra Society pair! And finally that ottoman, hands down my favorite piece on this page, IT WILL BE MINE.

What do you all think about some Southwestern flare? Try a few throw pillows and re-style your couch, you just might surprise yourself with how well this Western style can fit into an East coast life!

Music Monday

Monday, February 11, 2013

This week's song is quite the romantic one and I think it's only fitting seeing as Valentines day is nearly upon us! You might remember my stripes post from a few months back when I was packing for our friends wedding in Cape Cod. This was actually their first dance song and though I had heard it before, seeing it in that kind of a setting/context made me fall in LOVE. It was such a beautiful wedding and a truly touching moment.

Alison Krauss has a gorgeous voice and partnering up with Robert Plant (lead singer from Led Zeppelin) made this song so unique. lyrically simple, delicate and sweet, it's the perfect recipe for romance and the one you love. Happy love week!  <3

Sunday Night Thought Train Toot Toot

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Dooms day is upon us people... I seriously cannot stand Sunday nights. As per usual, my Sunday scaries are through the roof, so I usually light some candles and online browse with a little white noise in the background, in this case the Grammys/Walking Dead. As a result, here is my random train of thought. Be sure to check back in for Tuesday's Trend, it's one I LOVE!

Let's start with some Grammy looks...

Not the best picture, but Rihanna looked amaaaaazing in this red Alaia gown. She's annoying almost all the time, but she killed it with this dress, hair and makeup. Clueless throwback anyone?
"You don't understand, this is an Alaia"
"An a-what-a?"
"It's like a totally important designer"

Tay Tay's style has really evolved over the past few years so I will give her that. I like the J-Mendel Grecian look she's got going on here, and the little braid in her hair is definitely a hair-DO. My only issue is that metallic T on her chest. It becomes the main focal point and screws the rest of the dress and all of it's pretty little details. I say it's a 7 - She's on trend with the winter white, and should definitely keep the metallic sash but lose the T, T.

Even though Katy kind of broke the Grammy dress code rules and let her tots hang out, that mint green with her raven hair is so so good. And sorry, but while all of the other award shows are definitely grounds for a more conservative look, the Grammy's are supposed to be fun, edgy and envelope pushing. Stop with all the rules!

Oh Adele, you are so so talented, so lovely, and really a true beauty, but this dress needs to have never happened. I'm glad to see you are breaking away from your always boring, always expected (yawn) black dresses, but this looks like granny's couch and it's not cute. Keep on with the fun colors but maybe less of an intense pattern next time? I still love you, girl.
Oh and P.S. go home tonight and burn that bag...

Oh my word, what can I even say? You look like a dinosaur, Florence. Was that the point?
Stop it.

Ughh did anyone see when John Mayer and Bonnie Raitt presented Miranda and Dirks? His tie was KILLING me. First off, that pattern is puke. But the worst part was definitely how poofy and crooked it was. Also, what is with him and Katy Perry. I'm confused by it....
In other news, Katy Perry's cat is named Kitty Purry which I still find hysterical and genius...

Moving on... I received this bracelet from J for our first anniversary a few years back. She's a beaut alright, but I am thinking it's time to upgrade her a little and want to add a lock/charm. The Hermes website is annoying and doesn't show options (definitely not user friendly) so I guess I will have to pop into the store sometime, but curious what you all think of this idea? I know R. Zoe collects them for her bags, but do you think it would be to chunky/over the top to put one on the bracelet? I'm kind of into it but want to hear your thoughts! Below are a few of the choices I was able to find online.

I am a BIG horse person, but I wish this was more equestrian and less Pegasus...Don't think this one will be my choice.

This little pudger is so stinkin cute but for some reason it's not doing it for me. I think there just isn't enough detail and it sort of looks like a blob unless you closely examine it.

I think this might be the one! I love elephants, they're so cute and peaceful regardless of their size...gentle giants! More importantly they are good luck and I think we all need a little good luck in our lives.

Now, does anyone know how much these bad boys cost???

Sleep tight poodles!
