Trending Tuesday - Written In The Stars

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Hi Dolls - This didn't go up yesterday, but it should have! Please enjoy Trending Tuesday on a Wednesday. The celestial trend is popping up everywhere now. I am very on board with this since I love all things stars and stripes. Those Van's are sitting in my shopping cart awaiting a decision....
This trend? Gold star.

Let's start with the hair from the Rodarte Fall '12 show. I need one of these hair pieces right meow. So so pretty with messy hair worn up or down. Gold Star.

Khloe K got on trend - This is such an easy DIY too! Gold Star.
Love me some vans slip-ons - These ones are so cute with the stars and leopard lining. Definitely on my wish list. Gold Star.

These Current & Elliott shorts may be an investment piece, but it's one I would definitely make if I didn't already have stars and strips cut offs... These don't have to be worn solely on the 4th of July either. I would rock these all summer long with a fun flowy blouse on top! Gold Star.

ASOS is usually spot on with their dress collection and this starry frock does not disappoint. I love the feminine details mixed with a playful pattern. The flouncy sleeves and ruched waist line are what make this dress so sweet. Gold Star.

LOVE these skinnies - they are so fun!! Sometimes you have to consider the trend and decide "Is this something I am going to love forever?" If yes, invest. But if not forever21 is always a good place to turn to. I personally can not handle going into an actual F21 store, but their online shopping is easy, fast and most importantly, CHEAP. These pants come in navy and black as well. Gold Star.
I don't have a baby, but if I did you can be SURE these booties would adorn it's little footsies! How stinkin cute are these? I wish they made them in my size! Gold Star.

Chambray shirts don't seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon and that is just finnnnne by me. It's the easiest thing to throw on for a casual look on the weekends. But why not play up the basic chambray shirt and have a little fun with it. This one is a lovely example of just that! Gold Star.
Little gold star studs. Nuff said...

20 Things...

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

There is a fun activity going around the blogosphere where you share 20 random facts about yourself that your readers may not know. I thought it would be fun to participate so here they are in no particular order...

1. I never had braces but when I was 20, I started panicking over a slightly crooked tooth and decided to get invisalign.

2. I am out of control superstitious which one time caused me to delay an entire flight of people....

3. I was near fluent in conversational french after taking it for 8 years in middle/high school and 3 in college. Now I can only remember a few phrases and words.

4. My dream job was always to be an interior designer.

5. I had a gerbil named whiskers and I used to kiss him on the mouth all of the time. The thought of this now sicks me out.

6. I had my face bit off by a dog when I was in pre-school. Ended up with around 80 some stitches but today you would never know thanks to an amazing plastic surgeon.

7. I have been to the emergency room too many times to count. Some of these included jumping on a rusty roofing nail, ripping off my big toe nail and the above dog bite incident...

8. Ironically, dogs are my favorite animals but after dogs I love skunks - I just think they are really cute and funny.

9. I just learned to love avocados in the last year or two and now I am addicted. I consider them my "healthy" food even though I knew they are secretly full of cals...

10. I studied abroad in Bath England for 3 months.

11. I have always promised myself that I will live in London for at least a year of my life.

12. I am addicted to margaritas and queso dip...cant wait for Cinco de Mayo!

13. I love to buy high heels but rarely wear them these days...I just love how pretty they look in my closet.

14. I have left the country a bunch of times but I have never been to the West Coast.

15. My favorite colors are red, white, and navy and I love ANYTHING with an American flag on it.

16. My favorite holiday is Halloween. It was also my due date, though I came a week later on November 7th.

17. I am terrified of flying and feel legit panic when I have to. My work trip last week was no easy feat..

18. I have one sister who is four years older than me and married living in Philadelphia.

19. I went to all girls school for 13 years (K-12th grade).

20. When I was younger, I was afraid that there were crabs and lobsters at the foot of my bed when I was going to sleep because I was convinced one pinched me once. Most kids are afraid of monsters in the closet, I was afraid of the sea life under the covers at the bottom of my bed...

So there you have it, some of my weird quirks!

Music Monday + Giveaway Announcement!

Monday, March 25, 2013

Tonight's music selection comes from a reader request and I was happy to oblige since it's another song by my favey fave, Ellie Goulding. I will admit, when listening to her new album, it took me a few tries before actually liking this song, but now I loveee it. Her voice is so haunting and unique - there really isn't anyone else out there like her. I love reading about her back story too and her childhood growing up very modestly in the country side of England. Ellie is probably on my top 10 list of people I want to meet. Enjoy!

I am excited to announce my first giveaway will be happening early next week!! I'm partnering with Aquaphor and they have put together an amaaaazing package full of their products and a bunch of the new Spring colors from Essie (full size bottles!). So stay tuned, you do not want to miss this one!

Design Wants...

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I keep a folder in my Gmail for home decor pieces and design ideas that I come across or feel inspired by. It's creatively titled "Design Wants"... I pulled a few of my recent saves and shared them with you below. Hope they inspire and/or entertain you as much as they do me!
State shape cutting boards. These are so cool! They come in every state (some more practical than others). Massachusetts (above) is one of my favorites. At $48.00 they would make a cute house warming gift or a going away present for the new state in someone's life! Get them here.

I fell in love with this fireplace screen a few months back. Not sure how effective it is, but aesthetically it is a gem.  I love it with those birch logs piled up next to it and that Greek key moulding - oh my, so lovely!

I have been SEARCHING for a rustic ladder for my living room to hang my throw blankets on as pictured above. Finally I discovered one in the barn at my parent's farm house, but was quickly denied access to it... I didn't realize it, but I am a throw blanket hoarder. This would do wonders for keeping our living space organized and chic. I find I am really picky when it comes to ladder options, so the search is still on. via

How awesome are these?! Found them on etsy and I'm thinking about framing a few and adding them to a gallery wall in the apartment. I loved the idea of getting J's sign, my sign and Bug's sign, but then remembered we are all Scorpios. The three of us are literally born only a few days apart. I am the oldest in the family by 4 days so I am obviously the wisest/smartest. It's times like this I wish I had more wall space!! I need a house...

There is something about this chandelier - I am so intrigued by it. At first glance they look like individual light bulbs but really they are more like water drop pendants. Though it has a modern feel to it, I could really see it working over a round rustic wood table in a room with all neutral fabrics and wall color (think restoration hardware). It's always good to have some sort of conversation piece, something unexpected....

Trending Tuesday - Watch Me Now!

Trending Tuesday - Watch Me Now!

I am on a serious hunt for a new watch. I love watches, have always been a watch person, but I don't currently own one! That beauty top center is my dream watch (Dad, if you are reading this, I'm ready for your hand-me-down!). Since a Cartier watch is majorly out of my price range, I turn to some more budget friendly pieces. That Kate Spade (top right) is a fabulous substitute for the Cartier and at $215 it's also much more affordable. Michael Kors is ALWAYS a good choice. They have a ton of styles to choose from and are usually around $250, sometimes less. Above is the one I am currently lusting  after (hello Chanel look alike) and also my friend Colleen's pick, with that amazing navy face. Have you all heard of La Mer watches? They are affordable and customizable!! With the current "arm candy/arm party"( I still can't get on board with these sayings) trend, these wrap watches allow you to add charms, chains and sparkle, giving the allusion that you are piling on the bling when it's really one piece. Lastly That Hermes....I have no words... And the buckle Balenciaga (found by Colleen) is crazy unique and I must say, goes lovely with my blog design if anyone is feeling like buying me a present. Do you wear a watch on the reg? Which of the above would you choose if money were no option?

Music Monday

Monday, March 18, 2013

Happy Monday! Yay it's over. Tonight's song is a somewhat new discovery of mine. It has a mix of electronic, techno and pop sounds. Don't let that scare you, I am not a techno person at all, but this is a good beat. Make sure to crank up the volume and go get errrr...

Pottery Barn - Spot On

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Stopped into Pottery Barn last night to pick up a wedding shower gift for a friend. Ended up staying much longer than anticipated. I've always loved PB, but I forgot how truly on point their items are. I of course made besties with one of the sales women who just finished her courses towards an interior design degree. With the boyfriend and pooch waiting in the car, I finally made it out gift in hand and with a little something something for my living room (details to follow). I did however managed to snap a couple of shots on my way out the door. Those pillows? TOO TOO good.

Um, help?

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

So, I DRV Ellen every day. I love her, really I am pretty much obsessed with her (read her book if you haven't - it's funny). Anyways today, as I was casually watching, post long day at work, I suddenly had the freakiest (word?) revelation. Que: pretzels dropping out of my mouth. I am still trying to process it and decide if I am excited about this or...not. I just realized that I looked scarily similar (aka identical) to Ellen when I was a little baby/kid. I have this one specific image from a home video in my head and it has totally freaked me out. Ellen are you my long lost sister/aunt/cousin??? Has this ever happened to you, a moment where you see yourself in someone else, stranger or famous? I never really get doppelganger comments, except at one stage in my life when everyone mistook me for Nicky Hilton, including a woman who was creepily following me around the mall before finally breaking her silence and asking me if I was nicky...um no.

Welp, that's all I have for now.

Birch Box Dilemma

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Hi Gals!

So tonight I am weighing some pros and cons and want your feed back. Do any of you subscribe to Birchbox? For my readers who don't know what Birch Box is, for $10 a month you receive a surprise box full of hand selected beauty products that the company is currently partnering with and featuring. I have been a member for probably 8 months or so and I have to say, my experience has been really hit or miss. My first ever birch box killed it - including a full size bottle of essie nail polish and a twistband hair tie among other things. These were both things I would definitely use and made the $10 box worth its value. But other months have been less exciting and make me wonder if I should drop out. I know $10 isn't much, but it does add up over time... It's also a glass of wine at the bar.
I decided to post about this tonight because I got my March Birch Box in the mail, and once again opened it to find an assortment of blah products. Another major disappointment was that a product I was expecting to see in the box, and was actually really excited about, was not included. Each month the website does "sneak preview" videos which I always end up watching because I am bad at waiting for surprises. They pitched this collection of Serge Normant products, and then I didn't get a single thing from the line... disappointment.

The box does get an A for packaging and presentation, and it is really fun to have something to look forward to each month, but is it worth it??? Gahh I just cant decide!! I have to say I think the co-founders, Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp (pictured below) are extremely adorable and they often support new and/or small businesses and frequently highlight companies that give back with their proceeds which makes me REALLY want to support them. Little known fact, these two actually met at Harvard business school, talk about beauties with brains...

What are your thoughts on Birch Box? Do you subscribe to it? Have you dropped it? For me, the verdict is still out....

P.S for any guy readers, Birchbox offers a male version "Birchbox Man". You can check it out here.

Trending Tuesday - Large and In Charge

Monday, March 11, 2013

Today's trend is all about the over sized clutch. Now if you know me, you know I am a BIG bag person. That big bag, the Neverful GM is my every day bag, and yes I fill it to the brim. Don't worry, the man in the LV store assured me it could hold up to 200 lbs (I'm sure) so I think I am safe... Nevertheless when it comes to clutches for a night out, I still like em big! Here are a few of my faves. Which one would you choose?
Bisous, Elle
Minksundaylove@gmail.com

The Sam clutch by Emily Rosendahl. I put this one first since it is at the top of my wish list. This clutch was named for Samantha Hutchinson of the blog Could I Have That. Emily made the first model of this clutch from the hides that Sam's father gave her, so appropriately the bag was named for Sam. I love the idea of holding on to some fur accents/details for the Spring. Again this is at the top of my wish list ehh hemm boyfriend...(this is a test to see if you are reading my blog).
The Kate Spade Envelope clutch is perfect for a night out. I have this bad boy in Red which I picked up at my friend Toni's store Mint Condition. She actually gifted it to me for my last birthday, bless her little heart. I manage to fit makeup, iphone, credit card, ID, keys and sometimes a full bottle of perfume which I have been ridiculed for, but perfume is my addiction (future post on that to come). But really, how awesome is this punchy tangerine and magenta pink color?

Next up is this little gem I found in Bloomingdales. It's not something I would typically be drawn to, but for some reason it really caught my eye and I think it's fantastic. Nudes with pops of neon are also currently on trend.
This soft faux leather clutch has two of my favorite things going on: tassels and gold hardware.  Add in the fact that it comes in this cool mint color...aka very on trend, and that budget friendly price point and you have a winner.

Lastly, this sparkly pretty little looks high end...except, its not. Can you guess where it comes from? Add a little glitz to your night out with this glitter clutch. I'm picturing white skinnies, white blouse, neutral wedges and this sparkly babe. You can't beat $16.99 people!

Music Monday

Today's Music Monday is SOOO good....Maybe my favorite one to date! This past weekend, Madness by Muse was our anthem. We basically played it on repeat. It gets me so excited for Spring and warm weather. Hello?? windows down music? This.is.your.new.jam. Each time you listen you will become more obsessed, guaranteed or your money back! (*I'm not giving you any money. In fact you should probably pay me for bringing this awesome song into your life). You're welcome! Happy Monday to all, and to all a good glass of wine.

Double Dutch

Sunday, March 10, 2013

One of my favorite details when it comes to home design is the dutch door. It's beautiful, practical and has a charming way of a creating a warm and welcoming scene. The dutch door works in both interior and exterior settings, opening up any space. In my home in Philadelphia, a dutch door separates the mud room (aka dog/laundry room) from the kitchen. It's an easy solution for circulating air from the back door throughout the house, and also serves as a corral for Bug and her sister, Izzy, after a good roll in the mud. And while on the topic of animals, there's nothing more picturesque than a 200 year old barn dutch door with a curious little horse head peaking out from the top (see below). This will definitely be a feature that I look for in a home when it's my time to join the buyer's market. Until then, I will continue to add tear outs and paint strips to my inspiration books.
